Research
The Phytopathology group is organized into four main research teams with the following leading scientists:
Population Genetics (Prof. Bruce A. McDonald)
Perennial Crops (Prof. Cesare Gessler)
Biological Control (Dr. Monika Maurhofer)
Research activities encompass a broad cross-section of plant pathology, using approaches ranging from molecular cloning of resistance genes in plants and pathogenicity genes in microbes to measuring selection coefficients of competing pathogen strains in field experiments.
Significant research topics include microbial ecology, pathogen population genetics, genetic engineering of disease resistance, and experimental evolution of pathogens.
