Population Genetics

Plant pathogens are notorious for their propensity to evolve rapidly to overcome control strategies based on resistance genes and fungicides. More knowledge of the evolutionary process is needed to develop sustainable disease management practices based on durable genetic resistance or biological control agents.

Our main achievements over the past five years include:

Research Projects

Current

Effect of plant mating system on the genetic architecture of quantitative traits
Global population genetics and phylogeography of the rice sheath blight, maize banded leaf, and soybean aerial blight pathogen Rhizoctonia solani anastomosis group 1 IA
Improving resistance to barley scald through understanding the processes that govern the evolution of Rhynchosporium secalis populations
Population genetics and phylogeography of the barley scald pathogen Rhynchosporium secalis
Population genomics of adaptation in the wheat pathogen Mycosphaerella graminicola
The evolutionary ecology of the plant pathogenic fungus Rhynchsoporium secalis
