Effect of cholesterol and polyene antibiotics onpermeability of protoplasmic membrane of Pythium PRL2142

Spezialisation of Ovularia obliqua (Cooke) Oudem. (Deuteromycotina) to Rumes [syn. Lapathum (Campd.) Rech. f.] species was confirmed in glasshouse tests. No crop plants within the Polygonaceae or members of other families which may be contacted with Rumex weeds (16 species tested) were attacked by any of 4 strains of O. obliqua isolated from different Rumex (Lapathum) species. The strains examined infected species of Rumex from which they were isolated more intensively. Temperature ranges for growth <2 to <27°C and for conidiation <6 to 24°C were found for 4 strains tested in axenic culture. Juice from Rumex leaves stimulated conidia production. Conidia germinated to a high percentage (<>80%) within a wide emperature range (0 to 27°C). Germination started within 2 to 4 h.
